Powers Through... Child Literacy: Books as Mirrors, Windows, & Sliding Glass Doors
In this episode, I am in conversation with Keisha Siriboe, PhD. Dr Siriboe is a globally respected scholar. Earlier this year, she launched her own literacy consulantcy called Dr Keisha Cares. Dr Keisha Cares specialises in strengthening parent-child relationships through enjoyable read aloud and meaningful play. Through her Tedx Talks, international leadership, and early childhood research within China, Hong Kong, and the United States, she brings a diverse and unique perspective to her work within literacy education.

Dr. Keisha Siriboe is an international public speaker with a fierce commitment to literacy education and student agency. She is the first African-American to graduate with a MA degree from Beijing Normal University in Beijing, China, and a Ph.D. from the University of Hong Kong. Dr. Siriboe is a globally respected scholar with several academic awards to her name. She serves in leadership capacities within the American Education Research Association (AERA) and with the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Education 2030 Project. Professionally, she worked as the Director of Programming and Content for Reading Is Fundamental in Washington, DC. In 2020, she launched her own literacy consulting service, Dr. Keisha Cares, specializing in strengthening parent-child relationships through enjoyable reading aloud and meaningful play.

Today, I am in conversation with Cindy Montoto of Your Little Dove. Cindy is a mother to Leo and lives in Idaho with her husband, Austin. She is of Afro-Cuban descent and opened her shop Your Little Dove after some tragedy in her life, which she shares about within this episode. This episode focuses on operating business during a global pandemic and our current revolution. We discuss everything from June’s Black Out Tuesday to the BLM movement and COVID’s effect on business. Cindy offers some advice to our listeners who may want to start their own business. We meander through the conversation like the old friends we are. This is two mothers of color walking through the past few months together.
